Sangam Reunion Dinner 2023

With the blessings of Rev Fr. Dr. Dominic Savio S.J., Principal of St. Xavier's College (Autonomous) Calcutta and President, St. Xavier's College (Calcutta) Alumni Association, the Xaverians and the members of the SXCCAA celebrated the last but one day of the year at their alma mater reliving the shared memories of their college days and strengthening their bonds with their friends at Sangam-the Reunion Dinner 2023. It was attended by a large number of Xaverians.The Batch of 1998 celebrated their silver year.

May we continue to work as men and women for others through 2024.

Christmas Meet 2023

With the blessings of Rev Fr. Dr. Dominic Savio S.J., Principal of St. Xavier's College (Autonomous) Calcutta and President, St. Xavier's College (Calcutta) Alumni Association, the Christmas Meet organised by SXC & SXCCAA was a tremendous success. The Hon’ble CM who came as the Chief Guest, inaugurated the Crib and spent much time with the Reverend Fathers, Guests and members of SXCCAA.

May we keep the light of Christmas in our hearts throughout the year.

Annual Tea Meet

Under the leadership Rev Dr. Dominic Savio , Principal of St. Xavier’s College and the President of SXCCAA, the Annual Tea Meet, organised by the Women’s Forum of SXCCAA, on 18 th of November 2023, was a grand success with star performances by Nikhita Gandhi, singer and renowned Dancer Tanushree Shankar and her troupe.

The members of the Governing Council, 2023-25, were formally introduced and welcomed by Father President. The pinning ceremony was also held for the Women's Forum Council members by Father President. Fr. President also blessed the new members who have joined SXCCAA in the last one calendar year. In this very first and gala event of the year long calendar Father Principal addressed the gathering and set the tone for the upcoming year in terms of meaningful, philanthropic activities and networking and fellowship with the common goal of doing good for the society and the alma mater. The event was graced with the presence of Rev Fr Jeyaraj Veluswamy , Rector and other jesuit Fathers .

The evening saw the members of SXCCAA singing, dancing, playing fun games,having scrumptious snacks and catching up over cups of tea.

Spread The Light

To share the joy of Diwali with the specially abled, underprivileged, HIV Positive children and residents of Old-age Home of the city and celebrate joy of giving under the vision and inspiration of Rev. Dr. Dominic Savio , SJ - St. Xavier's College (Calcutta) Alumni Association organised the philanthropic initiative 'Spread The Light' today on 4th November, 2023 at the St. Xavier's College Campus. In this initiative food items , rations and several essential commodities were provided to for the residents of Premdan - Missionaries of Charity, Harinavi Srijon Vidyapith and Paikhala Primary School.

Rev. Dr. Dominic Savio, SJ addressed the gathering with his inspiring thoughts on the philanthropic activities that SXCCAA envisions and how our little gesture can bring smile to face of others in the time of festivities. The event was blessed with the gracious presence of Rev. Fr. Jeyraj Veluswami, SJ, Rector, St. Xavier's College, Rev. Dr. Joseph Kulanadai, SJ, Vice Principal, SXC, Rev. Fr. Probal Gomes, Minister, SXC and Rev. Fr. Anil Gomes, Assistant Controller of Examinations, SXC.

Looking Beyond IV

St. Xavier's College (Calcutta) Alumni Association (SXCCAA) along with its North Bengal Chapter organized the 4th edition of Looking Beyond, the annual national convention of Xaverians in the Mayfair Tea Resort, Siliguri amidst the lap of the hills. It was a meaningful two day long conference from 22nd to 24th September in which a large contingent of Xaverians including Jesuit Fathers, Professors, Alumni and their friends and family took part. The inauguration was done by Rev. Dr. Dominic Savio, SJ, Principal St. Xavier's College (Autonomous) Kolkata and President, SXCCAA on 22nd September followed by a fellowship dinner hosted by the North Bengal Chapter of SXCCAA, this event was graced with the presence of Mr. Goutam Deb, Mayor, Siliguri Municipal Corporation. There was a musical evening by eminent singer Baishali Lama.

On day two the conference started early in the morning with prayer by Rev Jeyaraj Veluswamy SJ ,Rector . This year the Xaverian Awards for Exemplary Service was conferred to Mr. Firdausul Hasan and Mr. Sanjib Koner by Rev. Dr. Dominic Savio, SJ. The program became more meaningful with a dance performance of Sukalyan and Entourage celebrating the 75 years of Indian Independence. The after noon program was a business meet where the topic was the Unfolded Opportunities in Business in North Bengal. In this convention to renowned women achievers namely, Mrs. Sulochona Mansi and Mrs. Jhumpa Ghosh Roy were also felicitated by Rev. Dr. Dominic Savio, SJ for their services in educational sectors and philanthropy. In the afternoon session a talk show was held starring eminent cricketer Sandeep Patil in an interaction with eminent journalist Mr. Goutam Bhattacharya. This Looking Beyond is more significant because on this very event the Women's Forum of SXCCAA launched there first national chapter, here in Siliguri. Rev. Dr. Dominic Savio, SJ inaugurated the chapter and blessed it for the days ahead. To mark this grand opening a mega fashion show inspired by Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore was showcased curated and executed by the members of the Women's Forum. Last but not the least, day ended with the musical mega show by one and only Usha Utthup followed by a DJ night.

Rev. Dr. Dominic Savio, SJ congratulated the team SXCCAA along with the North Bengal Chapter for all their efforts and planning for making this national meet a grand success.

Philanthropic Activity

During the Philanthropic Activity organised today by St. Xavier’s College Alumni Association along with the NSS department of St. Xavier’s College , Rev Dr Dominic Savio SJ , Principal of SXC & President of SXCCAA donated four sewing machines CALCUTTA MUSLIM ORPHANAGE for vocational training to the marganilized orphan and poor girls.

"Transforming Our World Together towards Sustainable Development" book publish

It was indeed a very proud ocassion for St. Xavier's College (Autonomous) Kolkata and St. Xavier's College (Calcutta) Alumni Association today, as the book titled "Transforming Our World Together towards Sustainable Development" edited by Rev. Dr. Dominic Savio, SJ, Principal, St. Xavier's College (Autonomous) Kolkata and President, St. Xavier's College (Calcutta) Alumni Association along with Prof. Samrat Roy and Prof. Saswati Chaudhuri, published by the Cambridge Scholars Publishing was launched by Sri Bratya Basu, Hon'ble Minister-in-charge, Higher Education and School Education Department, Govt. Of West Bengal in St. Xavier's College, Kolkata. Sri Basu praised Xavier's for all its academic endeavours and mentioned about the hard works of all the Jesuit Fathers in running of this institution under the able guidance of Rev. Dr. Dominic Savio, SJ. Sri Basu also explained to the gathering that how significant the book is in the contemporary scenario and also in the transformation of the world towards sustainable development, as the name reflects very rightly. Father Principal in his speech mentioned about the significance of the book and the collective efforts behind this book along with the importance of more and more such publications in coming days.

162nd birth anniversary of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore

St. Xavier's College (Autonomous) Kolkata and St. Xavier's College (Calcutta) Alumni Association celebrated 162nd birth anniversary of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore in the college premises on 9th May, 2023 . The event was lined up with cultural programs including Rabindra Sangeet, recitations and speeches on Tagore and his literary works. In his inaugural address Rev. Dr. Dominic Savio, SJ mentioned the vision of Tagore and his impact on the Xaverian education and culture. Father also shared interesting anecdotes regarding Tagore during his student life in St. Xavier's , Kolkata . Father President reminded the gathering that Tagore was the first Joint Vice-President of the St. Xavier's College (Calcutta) Alumni Association and initiated many philanthropic and fundraising activities for the association. Thus a very significant day of the Bengali calendar year was observed to remember the notable Alumnus of the institution with the presence of Fr Rector , Jesuit Fathers, professors, students and Alumni members of the college.

WOMEN & BEYOND

St. Xavier's College (Calcutta) Alumni Association organized International Women's Day Celebration Program titled * WOMEN & BEYOND* on 18th March, Saturday in the Fr. Depilchin Auditorium, comprising felicitation of Women Achievers of contemporary time from various fields of works followed by a panel discussion with these empowered women , telling their success stories, under the able guidance of Rev. Fr. (Dr.) Dominic Savio, SJ, Principal, St. Xavier's College (Autonomous) Kolkata and President, SXCCAA. The inaugural of the evening was graced with a marvelous classical dance performance by Mrs. Jaya Seal Ghosh portraying Naree Shakti who believes 'You must dance through the storm to meet the rainbow!'.

In his speech Fr. President, Rev. Fr. Dominic Savio mentioned about the need of women empowerment and gender equality in the society and shared his visions about how St. Xavier's College is doing the same over the last few decades, along with the new addition of the Dept. of Gender studies and the Raghabpur campus where 70% of the students are girl child. In this gathering SXCCAA felicitated eminent Singer Mrs. Usha Uthup, Mrs. Gargee Roychowdhury an eminent actress and Ms. Monisha Poilan an acid attack survivor and a social activist. In the enlightening panel discussion moderated by Mrs. Raya Bhattacharya, Ms. Poilan told her story of how she has turned her wounds into her wisdom, where Mrs. Gargee Roychowdhury reflected on how the society helped her to learn with experiences being a woman along with the contributions of the men in her life in becoming what she is today and lastly Mrs. Usha Uthup mentioned about the contributions of St. Xavier's in her life in becoming who she is today. The event was concluded with the dazzling musical bits of Mrs. Uthup.

Shishu Mela 2023

Shishu Mela, the flagship event of St. Xavier’s College under the aegis of the National Service Scheme (NSS), was organized this morning in the St. Xavier's College Grounds . Almost 600 children from different villages and NGO’s took part in the event and among them 350 were girl children.

The children’s applaud echoed louder when Rev. Dr. Dominic Savio, SJ, Principal welcomed them to continue to higher education at St. Xavier’s. He stated, “tomra boro hoye ei college e porte asbe” (When you grow up you must come and study in this College). This event is an outcome of the love and affection that the Xaverians have towards the less privileged and extended Xaverian family. The community believes this event will surely bring about mutual satisfaction and learning and the Xaverians will continue to lead from the front when it comes to serving the Society.

Father , in his address , spoke about his vision about the contribution of Alumni Association and its members in growth and expansion of the alma mater as well as the generous Philanthropic activities undertaken throughout the year .

Father Dr. Dominic Savio, for his leadership in academics, outreach and philanthropic endeavours.

Annual Tea Meet 2022

Reverend Father Dr. Dominic Savio, SJ, Principal of St. Xavier’s College, ( Autonomous), and President of SXCCAA, formally welcomed the Governing Council Members of the Alumni Association of St. Xavier’s College, Kolkata and the Working Committee of the Women’s Forum at the gala Annual Tea Meet organised by the Women’s Forum of SXCCAA on 13th November 2022 at 5:30pm at Fr. Depelchin Auditorium.

The auditorium was packed as Xaverians and dignitaries were enthralled by the soulful renditions of the pianist- vocalist duo, Sourendra & Soumojit and the dance presentation performed by the star Rituparna Sengupta. The main event was followed by games as the members busied themselves in fellowship, over cups of kesar chai and scrumptious snacks, in the field.
The very first event of the SXCCAA calendar flagged off on a high note amidst warmth and bonding!
