Early Life

Reverend Father Dominic Savio, SJ, is the Principal of St. Xavier’s College (Autonomous) Kolkata and the President of St. Xavier’s College (Calcutta) Alumni Association.
Fr. Dominic also served as the Rector of St. Xavier’s Community, School & College from 2013 to 2020.

Named after one of the famous Catholic Saints, St. Dominic Savio, Fr. Dominic has been part of the Jesuit education system all through his life. Fr. Dominic did his schooling from De Britto School at Devakottai in Southern Tamil Nadu and his graduation in economics from St. Joseph’s College, Trichy. He did his Masters and MPhil from Loyola College, Chennai. He received his PhD in economics from Burdwan University. His research interests include international trade, international economics and econometrics.

Fr. Dominic joined the Jesuit Order in Dhyan Ashram, Kolkata, in 1985 and was ordained as a priest in 1996.

Fr. Dominic has been associated with St. Xavier’s College, Kolkata, since 2000, teaching economics. Over the years, he has been the Vice-Principal of the Commerce (morning) and the BBA departments of the college, then the Deputy Principal and subsequently the Principal, since November 1, 2017.

Fr. Dominic is also a member of the Governing Body of the International Association of Jesuit Universities and Colleges across the world. Apart from being a member of the Governing Body of many Jesuit educational institutions, he is also the Convener of the Calcutta Jesuit Province Higher Education Commission.

This book, published on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of his ordination as a priest, attempts to capture the life and philosophy of Fr. Dominic, who has dedicated his life to the service of God.
