  • Shishu Mela

    Rev Fr. Dr. Dominic Savio S.J., Principal of St. Xavier's College (Autonomous) Calcutta and President, St. Xavier's College (Calcutta), Alumni Association, inaugurated the Shishu Mela, organized by the NSS department, on 11.02.24 at the college grounds. The 650 children from 13 different NGOs and 4 college adopted villages, enjoyed a fun-filled Sunday, singing,dancing, playing games at the stalls, receiving prizes and goody bags and enjoying the rides set up for them. The Shishu Mela was graced by Shri Vinay Kumar, the NSS Regional Director, Ministry of Youth Affairs,Sports,Govt. of India, Dr. Debarati Das, Deputy Registrar and NSS Programme Coordinator, University of Calcutta and other notable dignitaries. Reverend Father Dr.Dominic Savio encouraged the children by urging them to grow up and come to St. Xavier’s College to study.

    The hard work of the student volunteers showed that Xaverians will continue to lead from the front when it comes to serving the Society.

  • Under the leadership, guidance and blessings of Rev Fr. Dr. Dominic Savio S.J., Principal, St. Xavier's College (Autonomous) Calcutta and President, St. Xavier's College (Calcutta) Alumni Association (SXCCAA), 300 no Christmas goodie bags consisting of various stationery and food items like drawing books, pencils, pens crayons, biscuits, noodles, cakes, Santa caps, chocolates, frooti etc were given to the children of Christo Sewa Ashram, Kalna, Bardhaman West, West Bengal under our flagship philantrophic initiative - Share and Care. The specially designed goodie bags were handed over by Rev. Fr. Dr. Dominic Savio, S.J to the Parish Priest of Christo Sewa Ashram, Rev. Fr Mahananda Singh in the presence of the Philanthropy team of SXCCAA at St Xaviers College Calcutta College campus on 12th December 2023.

    We pray to the Almighty to bless us abundantly so that we continue to bring smile to the children and work for the marginalised section of our society. Merry Chritmas to one and all.

  • Under the guidance and inspiration of Rev. Dr. Dominic Savio SJ Principal of SXC & President of SXCCAA, a philanthropic activity was undertaken today by SXCCAA wherein four sewing machines were handed over to Rev Father . These sewing machines were donated by LIONS KAKURGACHI WELFARE SOCIETY to SXCCAA.
    The NSS dept of SXC along with SXCCAA will hand over these sewing machines to Kolkata Muslim Orphanage for vocational training to the marganilized orphan and needy girls.
  • In continuation to the inauguration of the week-long Philanthropic activities during this Christmas season , on 18 December 2022 Rev. Fr. Dr. Dominic Savio SJ , Principal of St. Xavier’s College (Autonomous) and President of St. Xavier’s College (Calcutta) Alumni Association graced ”LET'S SHARE & CARE” initiative at Paikhala Prathamik Vidyalay (A Charitable school adopted by SXCCAA) in presence of Rev. Fr. Joseph Kulandai SJ, Rev. Fr. Peter Arockiam SJ, other Fathers and Brother of St. Xavier's Community and alumni members.
    Father shared the message of Christmas with the students, urged them to pursue higher education and gifted goodie bags and blankets to more than 150 children present there. In another celebration at the Rural campus of the College at Raghabpur organised by NSS around 500 children came from adjacent villages of the campus and greeted the dignitaries. Father shared his Christmas message and gifts with all the children.
  • Rev Fr Dominic Savio SJ, Principal of St. Xavier’s College and President of St. Xavier’s College Calcutta Alumni Association on 17th December 20222 inaugurated the week long philanthropic activities titled ”LETS SHARE & CARE” in presence of Rev Fr Joseph Kulandai, Rev Fr Peter Arockiam and alumni members.
    Father shared the joy of Christmas season with the orphans, underprivileged and specially abled children from different NGO’s by gifting them with goodie bags, blankets, winter clothes, stationary, food items, chocolates, cakes etc . More than 500 children will get benefitted from different NGO’s like Asha Niketan, Bodhona, Save the Orphans etc.
  • Father has already proved himself as a true Jesuit by way of his strictness in achieving competence among the students including discipline in one hand and being extremely compassionate towards his students when any of them has been in distress or in need of any guidance, help, comfort and counseling.
  • Father had contributed at large to the society with regard to extension activities of St.Xavier’s College in setting up of Raghabpur Campus. Raghabpur, about 25 kms away from the main campus, caters primarily to the academic needs of the rural students This is in line with the Jesuit motto "Magis" that means "more" or "greater". It is related to 'Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam', a Latin phrase meaning "for the greater glory of God", the motto of the Society of Jesus. Magis refers to the philosophy of doing more for God, and therefore doing more for others and the society.
  • Under the competent leadership of Father, a Counselling cell is constituted at St.Xavier’s College for the betterment of humanity across students, teachers, parents and all well-wishers.
  • To enrich and foster the academic insights among the researchers, faculty members and students of Commerce, Management and Economics, Finance Lab is to be constituted at St. Xavier’s College, under the proficient leadership of Father Dr. Dominic Savio. This will inculcate the research skills apt for academia-industry interface.
  • Under the competent leadership of Father, St. Xavier’s College has started the online classes through Microsoft Teams for under graduate and post graduate courses.
  • Father had taken noble initiatives to serve the humanity during the trying times of Covid 19 and Amphan. The stakeholders of college played an active role in the college’s contribution of Rs 40 lakh to chief minister’s special corona relief fund.
  • Under his leadership, during the lockdown, the former students of St. Xavier’s College distributed ration to 500 needy people on Good Friday and Easter of this year.
  • The college identified 16 villages in South 24 Parganas and distributed essentials to 3,000 families. They will continue helping the hapless people till the pandemic is over.
  • With the blessings of Father Savio, St. Xavier’s College has taken up the noble initiative to stand by doctors and other frontline health service providers, who havebeen extending humanitarian service at this trying time.
  • Father has extended his support to the one hundred homes damaged by Cyclone Amphan in a South 24-Parganas pocket which are being repaired by funds provided by former students of St Xavier’s College (Autonomous).
  • Extending fund support for COVID treatment to patients from economically challenged background already given eye treatment by SXCCAA earlier.
  • Extending financial support to a Migrant Worker who lost his job during the 1st wave of COVID pandemic, with further financial support in this 2nd wave of COVID outbreak.
  • Reimbursement of the medical expenses of beneficiaries from economically challenged background having signs of comorbidity.
  • Distribution of Sanitizers, Pulse Oximeters, Medicines, portable oxygen cylinders and some food items to villagers and family members of the Students of Paikhala Prathamik Vidyalaya – more than 500 beneficiaries.
  • Poor families with members affected by COVID residing at Taltala area of Kolkata has been given dry ration by SXCCAA.
  • Financial help has been extended to the family members of Students studying at Raghabpur Campus of our College.
  • SXCCAA helped a social welfare organization namely Asha Niketan of South Kolkata, Save the Orphans and Old Age near Rania Nabarunpur, Paikhala Prathamik Vidyalay of Paikhala of South 24 Parganas District with complete ration and spices arrangements for their inmates on monthly basis for a substantial period.
  • St Xavier’s College Calcutta Alumni Association (SXCCAA) in collaboration with the College has opened a covid help desk namely “SXCCAAhelp” at the Park Street campus for arranging oxygen concentrators, oxygen cylinders, pulse oximeters, PPE kits, hand sanitizers, supply of medicines, blood and plasma donations, arranging hospital beds in private and government hospitals, arranging COVID medicines. SXCCAAhelp helpline number is +917439955182 and benefited more than 150 COVID patients with oxygen and blood supply, hospital bed arrangements.
  • Launched a comprehensive philanthropic COVID rehabilitation-cum-fundraising initiative namely “SXCCAAhelp LIFETIME LIFELINE” featuring collection and Mass Distribution of Oxygen Concentrators, Oxygen Cylinders, Pulse Oximeters, PPE Kits, Hand Sanitizers, KN 95 & Surgical Masks.
  • Extending financial support and maintaining uninterrupted medical facilities, supply of medicines, supply of food as well as other essential items to Old Age Homes, Orphanages, Homes of specially-abled children, Homeless pavement dwellers, Underprivileged people.
  • Set up COVID Vaccination Camp to be set up at St. Xavier’s College (Autonomous) Main Campus at 30 Park Street (Mother Teresa Sarani) as well as at the Rural Campus at Raghabpur for Community Fathers along with the students, teachers, support staff members along with their family members and even common public under the guidance of Department of Health and Family Welfare and Department of Urban Development & Municipal Affairs, Government of West Bengal. Notably 10,000 COVID Vaccination doses were successfully administered at St. Xavier’s College (both campuses taken together).
  • A week-long Tree Plantation and Sapling Distribution Initiative of St. Xavier's College Autonomous, Kolkata and St. Xavier's College Calcutta Alumni Association was inaugurated by Rev. Fr. Dr. Dominic Savio, SJ, Principal St. Xavier's College (Autonomous), Kolkata and President SXCCAA in presence of Rev. Fr. Dr. Thamacin Arulappan, SJ, Principal St Xavier's Collegiate School, Kolkata and President ALSOC along with other Jesuit Fathers and Brother of St. Xavier's Community, Members of SXCCAA and ALSOC on 08th August 2021 afternoon at Raghabpur Campus of St. Xavier's College. Some 100 saplings were planted at the grounds of the Campus and 500 more saplings were distributed by Rev. Father and others in this Inaugural initiative. This initiative featured more of such Plantation drives with more than 10,000 saplings planted across the state of West Bengal in next 7days in the surrounding Amphan and Yaas affected villages, ending on the auspicious occasion of 75th Indian Independence Day on 15th August at Park Street campus.
  • Another effort to bring smiles to the underprivileged and needy people in this festive season was initiated by St. Xavier's College Autonomous, Kolkata by the name of *"FESTIVAL OF GIVING"* with the support of the old students' association of this premiere institution, St. Xavier's College Calcutta Alumni Association on Tuesday 5th October 2021. A variety of more than 25 daily essential items and dress materials to special and specially-abled children from 3 NGOs namely Asha Niketan, Save the Orphans and Old Age and Paikhala Prathamik Vidyalaya were formally handed over by Rev. Fr. Dr. Dominic Savio, SJ, Principal of St. Xavier's College (Autonomous) Kolkata and President of St. Xavier's College (Calcutta) Alumni Association along with other Fathers of St. Xavier's Community on the occasion.
  • The Members of the Governing Council, under the leadership of Rev. Fr. Dr. Dominic Savio, SJ, Principal of St. Xavier's College (Autonomous) Kolkata and President of St. Xavier's College (Calcutta) Alumni Association distributed food ,essential items and gifts, as a part of the many philanthropic activities undertaken by SXCCAA, among the beneficiaries namely Harinavi Srijan Vidyapith (Organization for HIV Positive Children and Fire Crackers' Child Labourers), Save the Orphans and Old Age, Asha Niketan and Paikhala Prathamik Vidyalaya – to mark the Diwali 2021 celebrations.
  • Father’s competent leadership has instrumented the college to take up a project called ‘Gift a Roof’ with the support from the alumni/ae. After the cyclone, an initialdoor to door survey of the students of the surrounding villages was conducted by professors and one hundred students were identified, whose homes were severelydamaged. The fund to rebuild their damaged houses is being transferred to the bank accounts of the students, recorded with the college. The college and its former students had provided drinking water to many families in the area in the immediate aftermath of the storm.
